Two New Sea Spider Species Documented in the Salish Sea

UBC-led research has described two previously undescribed sea spider species, based on dives across the Salish Sea from September 2023 to August 2024. The study paired imaging with DNA analysis and produced an identification guide for future researchers in the region.

An Island the Size of Two Football Fields Just Travelled 30 KM in B.C.

A massive floating island roughly the size of two football fields mysteriously moved across B.C.’s Williston Reservoir. BC Hydro says the vegetation-covered island travelled about 30 kilometres over 15 days, eventually reaching the Ospika Arm. Researchers are now interested in understanding how such a large floating island formed and moved.
