Scientists Made an Atom Take Two Paths at Once — Then Let Gravity Test Einstein
An international team placed ultracold rubidium atoms into a quantum superposition, holding one matter-wave path still while allowing the other to fall under gravity. When the paths recombined, their interference matched the quantum-phase prediction based on Einstein’s equivalence principle. The result does not solve quantum gravity, but it tests gravity’s consistency with quantum mechanics in a new regime.
